I never quite knew what this term meant all those years ago when I was fresh out of school. How can hands ‘heal’?
It didn’t take me long to understand about the art of healing; probably just a few days into my Chiropractic course, actually… And whilst technology has gone ahead in leaps and bounds over the past 38 years, the art of healing with my hands is still very much the same; I’m just better at it.
The physical art of detecting abnormal and the unusual within the function of a human body, is my passion. Just by combining my knowledge and palpation skills, I can come forward with a differential diagnosis which can then be confirmed by imaging or otherwise, taking a patient’s history and piecing it all together.
It all started from a position of not knowing as a young undergraduate, to developing a skill that has been fostered after many years and thousands of hours of practice. I run an evidenced-based practice and by combining my knowledge of anatomy, normal and abnormal human biomechanics, linked with the knowledge of disease and injury mechanisms, leads me to be able to ‘feel’ the difference in a person’s joint and spinal function.
This allows me to deliver a range of treatments for the best outcome.
The thing that most people don’t understand is the transference of energy from me to my patients, all via the two appendages at the end of my arms! When I stop for a moment and think of that phenomenon, it actually blows me away. I can help people get well and free them from pain without drugs or surgery, just using my knowledge, my diagnostic skills and my hands!
And whilst new health fads pop up daily, rest assured, the hundred year old, gentle art of Chiropractic using my years of acquired knowledge and my healing hands, will always be my passion together with being aware of new scientific developments via compulsory, continuing education. Learning is key, it always has been and always will be
